On June 22, 2017, the Jiangsu Provincial Bureau of Quality and Technical Supervision announced the results of the quality supervision and random inspection of children's furniture products in the second quarter of 2017. This time, a total of 149 batches of children's furniture products were sampled and 103 batches were qualified, with a pass rate of 69.1%. Sampling inspections found that 46 batches of furniture products of Kumanju, June 1st, Xibeibei and other brands were unqualified. According to the results of random inspections, among the unqualified products, 32 batches of products were found to be unqualified due to structural safety indicators. The problems were that the corners or edges of the products were not rounded or chamfered, and there were dangerous protrusions, holes and gaps. Meet the requirements, no anti-folding device, the closing force of the flap and flap is less than 8N (Newton), no hardware to prevent detachment, no anti-pull-off device, etc.
These unqualified products do not meet the requirements for structural safety in the "General Technical Requirements for Children's Furniture". It is understood that the standard includes detailed regulations on edges and tips, protrusions, holes and gaps, folding mechanisms, flaps, flaps, closed furniture, and mechanical properties. For example, for "edges and tips", there should be no dangerous sharp edges and dangerous sharp tips. The corners and edges should be rounded or chamfered; for "holes and gaps", holes and gaps with a depth of more than 10mm, the diameter or The gap should be less than 6mm or greater than or equal to 12mm; the "projection" requires that the product should not have dangerous projections. If there are dangerous projections, they should be protected by suitable methods. For the "folding mechanism", except for doors, covers, push-pull parts and their hardware, products should not produce dangerous extrusion and shear points under normal load. If the product has a folding mechanism or bracket, there should be a safety stop or locking device to prevent accidental movement or folding. Ignoring these problems, children are vulnerable to unforeseen injuries in the process of using children's furniture.
On May 27, 2017, the Shanghai Administration for Industry and Commerce released the results of the random inspection of the quality of children's furniture (children's high chairs) sold on its online platform, and passed the inspections on Tmall Mall, No.1 Store, Feiniu.com, Maternal and Child Home, and IKEA. 39 batches of children's high chairs and children's furniture sold on 5 online platforms of the mall were subject to market inspection and quality random inspection. After testing, 8 batches were unqualified, and the unqualified detection rate was 20.5%.
Sampling inspection found that there was 1 batch of children’s furniture harmful substances (migrating elements on the surface coating) exceeding the standard in the unqualified furniture. The "Mige" brand children’s furniture (children’s chair) sold by the No. 1 store Zhongshan Nazhi Daily Products Co., Ltd. ) (Model specifications: 40cm high stool surface height 18cm, qualified product), the surface paint lead Pb was measured to be 103.057mg/kg (standard value should be ≤90mg/kg), which exceeded the national mandatory standard limit. Lead has a certain hazard. If children chew on toys or furniture painted with lead paint, it will cause poisoning. Six batches of children's furniture warning signs failed. The requirements of the "General Technical Requirements for Children's Furniture" for "warning signs" are that the applicable age group of the product should be clearly indicated in the instructions for use, namely: "3-6 years old", "3 years old and above" or "7 years old and above" . If the product needs to be installed, the warning word "Attention! Only allow adults to install, children keep away" should be marked in the instructions for use. If the product has a folding or adjustment device, the warning word "Warning! Be careful of pinching" should be marked in the appropriate position of the product. Warning signs are safety indicators of children's furniture, which can effectively remind consumers to use children's furniture correctly and avoid potential use hazards. The warning signs are unqualified. Once children can't use them correctly, it may cause injury.
